Background

The Dead Sea is one of the most saline lakes in the world. It lies between the hills of Judaea to the west and the Transjordanian plateaus to the east. The Jordan River flows from the north into the Dead Sea. Many years ago, heavy stream flow into the lake deposited thick sediments containing shale, clay, sandstone, rock salt, and gypsum.

After this, strata of clay, marl, soft chalk, and gypsum fell upon layers of sands and gravel. Having no outlet, the Dead Sea is a "terminal lake" which loses huge amounts of water by evaporation in the hot dry air. The water has evaporated faster than it has been replenished by precipitation over the last 3 to 4 thousand years, which has resulted in the lake gradually shrinking to its present form. Because of this, bare deposits cover the Dead Sea valley to a thickness of 1 to 4 miles (1.6 to 6.4 Km). This water evaporation has also resulted in high concentrations of salts and minerals in a unique composition that is particularly rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, bromide, and various other minor anions such as, e.g., sulfate.

Relative Studies

Many Otorhinolaryngologist (ear, nose, & throat doctors) have strongly advocated nasal wash or irrigation with hypertonic (double or triple salt) saline solution in the management of chronic sinusitis. Although hypertonic saline solution has shown value it has not been universally embraced as a form of nasal spray in the treatment of sinusitis , . Most ear, nose, & throat doctors would agree regular (isotonic or same concentration as the body) saline salt solution is appropriate treatment sinus and allergy problems.

Other studies have shown the Dead Sea salt and the ingredients therein are helpful in the treatment of some skin disorders, i.e. psoriasis, allergy reactions. The effect of the Dead Sea salt solution is to decrease inflammation. The mechanism for this anti-inflammatory reaction this through the high content of magnesium, only found in the Dead Sea salt. One study showed that the Dead Sea salt would decrease allergic reaction on the skin in individuals with a nickel skin allergy. Studies have shown allergy reaction of the external skin to be decreased by the Dead Sea salt but not from any other salt. Clinical studies have shown a significant difference with the Dead Sea salt solution in comparison to the saline nasal spray in the treatment of allergic rhinitis (nasal allergies).

Studies at the Mayo Clinic have shown that chronic rhinosinusitis ( recurrent or long term sinus problems) is caused from an immune reaction from fungi located in the mucus of the nose. Rinsing of the nose will eliminate the fungi and therefore decrease the immune response. In the same way rinsing will eliminate pollens, dust, mold and allergens, which cause an allergic reaction we see with allergies .

Therefore, Oasis nasal spray & wash will not only rinse and wash the nose to eliminate allergens and fungus, it also provides an anti-inflammatory response. This is effective treating nasal sinus disease and allergies. Symptoms include nasal stuffiness, runny nose, postnasal drip, cough, facial pain or pressure, watery itchy eyes, sneezing, and recurrent infections.
